Foreword
Eryk kindly took the time out to email me his recollections of his early years, and his memory is certainly better than mine! If you remember anything from his recollections or are one of the people mentioned let me know.

I was fascinated to come across your web site on Johnstone, as I was born there, at 19 Ellerslie St. on July 8th, 1942. Ellerslie St. was home for me until 1954, when we emigrated to Montreal, Province of Quebec, Canada.

My name is Eryk Polonski, only son of Nana McCabe (originally from Bridge of Weir Scotland), and Eryk Polonski (Polish Soldier, born in Plocz, Poland).
We lived with my grandmother, Annie McCabe, in her house at 19 Ellerslie and my great grandmother, Janet Begley, also resided there. Both my grandmother and great grandmother were originally from Bridge of Weir and the Houston area.

I have fond childhood recollections of Ellerslie St., but you must remember that as I lived there until I was only eleven years of age that my memory may play tricks on me when it comes to an accurate remembrance of all the names.
Anyway, here goes.

Two older ladies lived in separate homes on the ground floor of number 19, namely Mrs Boyd, and Mrs Granger. On the second floor, lived the Nicol family, Robbie, the son was one of my childhood pals, and he had an older sister Margaret Nicol, and I believe the mother was Jessie, and the father I believe also Robert.
On the top floor where we lived , our neighbours were the Lennons, and again one of my chums was the son, Billy Lennon. I'll continue with this epistle a little later. I have more names of great childhood freinds (Jim Orr, John Lawrie, the Holmes family, and the McSkimming family) who lived in the area and memories of playing football in the "basin' which was a "park" right in front of our homes, and directly across from the works (London and Son?) that were there at the time.
It will be interesting to see if any other of the families who lived in that area contact you. I will look to see if I have any old black and white photos, but somehow I think it is going to be a long shot.
