Johnstone High Parish Church or " The Big Kirk" They started building this church in 1792, two years later they had there first service. At that time they had 846 people on the communion role. The building was built mainly due to a senior minister at Paisley Abbey, Dr Boag. Up until it became the Parish Church in 1834 it was controlled by Paisley Abbey. It had it's spire erected in 1823 and it's unusual octagonal design attracts great interest from the architectural world. Little has changed, the trees are bigger, the clock face has changed and the well in the foreground has been moved to the middle of Ludovic Square. |
