For me the Thorn Brae is is one of those famous hills that always held a certain kind of magic, you climbed this to get to the Train Station. Many children climbed this hill every day to get to the Thorn Primary School. You'll notice the "Corporation Buses" in the older version. The gardens to the right are still there but sport the sign that will mystify future historian - "No Ball Games". You can help but notice the biggest landmark now, Provost Close! When this was being built I was at primary school and rumours abounded of them building it to close to the road. It had a nickname when I was at school "The Staff of Johnstone" I see this building from just about everywhere because of the red neon lights that go along the pagoda roof like a permanent set of Christmas lights. |
